Poor Girl :(

This past week I took Reagan to the doctor. Nothing major just a her yearly checkup. In case you were wondering yes Reagan is still growing like crazy. She is 42 inches tall and heights 40 pounds...off the charts for her age. But we are getting pretty use to that :)

One reason why we wanted to take her to the doctor is because of Reagan's snoring. It is something that we have question our doctor about but he didn't even care to give it a second thought so we switched doctors. We kind of joke about it that if Reagan didn't snore we wouldn't know when she was sleeping. But it seriously is a concern for us. Sometimes her snoring isn't a big deal and other times it's like she has to struggle to breath. We just want to know if we should be concerned and if there is anything we can do to help her breathe a little easier.

The doctor said that Reagan did have a lot of mucus in her nose and throat. That could have been caused from a recent cold or allergies since it is allergy season. One thing that she asked me was if Reagan was a big milk drinker. She definitely loves milk. I can get her to drink juice sometimes but she would rather have milk. The doctor asked that I take Reagan off milk for two weeks and she if there is any change in her snoring. She said sometimes when people have an allergy to milk or are getting too much of it, it can cause mucus build up and snoring. Two weeks is a long time for a little girl to have to go without milk when she is so use to it. We got a rice milk that was suggested by the doctor and a friend whose daughter is allergic. At first Reagan was really excited to get "special milk" just like her friend Quincy drinks. But it's gotten harder the last few days. I have been trying to keep her away from milk products as well. You seriously don't realize how much stuff has milk in it until you are trying to do without. Trying to make dinner is a struggle everyday.

Reagan pretty much understands not drinking her normal milk. But she has been wanting cheese so bad. She has been in tears a couple of times because that is what she wanted and I couldn't give it to her. The other night she was crying about having a cheese stick and I had to just hold her and tell you I couldn't give it to her until the doctor said it was okay...it just broke my heart. I keep wondering if making her go without milk for two weeks is worth it. As of right now I'd say no because her snoring hasn't gotten any better. Of course it has only been a few days. Even if Reagan ends up not being allergic to milk it is the first step to finding out what is causing her snoring. We will got to as many specialist as needed to help our little girl breath a little easier.

Good luck. Hang in there, I'm sure it's very important that you at least figure out what it isn't to narrow down the field. You need to at least give it the two weeks.

I'm sure they already looked into this, but Myleigh snored REALLY bad too. We got her tonsils and adenoids removed and she hasn't snored since and sleeps much sounder. I'm sure that's the first thing they checked for - but just thought I'd put it out there. Hope you figure it out soon!

When Austin was about her age he would throw up every morning and then be fine for the rest of the day. I was taking a lot of days off work for nothing. The Dr. had us take him off milk for two weeks for two weeks also. I agree that it is very difficult for kids who are dairy lovers. But we made it through and then we added dairy back in slowly, but he use to live off milk or Ovaltine. I cut way back but for some reason his body had built up an intolerance for it. It was hard but it worked so we were glad. I was afriad he was going to be lactose intolerant forever.

Oh that's so hard! We did some lab tests on Brody a few years ago and found out that Brody has slight allergies to milk and peanut butter. We took him off of them for 2 weeks and it was terrible. Brody got so skinny. He had black circles under his eyes. I know it's bad, but we still let him have foods with pb and milk. I think trying to reintroduce them slowly like Tara said is a good idea. Good luck!

vanilla soy milk is a good substitute, and coconut milk is also good. They have a dairy free cheese called, "Daiya" that makes great pizza and quesadillas. And you can also try soy and coconut milk yogurts. Generally they are in the vegan and organic sections of the grocery stores. Good luck - it's hard the first little while, but you get used to it pretty quick. And I agree with Adri. Did you take her to an ENT?
